Reality > Vitually

Ian Daily "Virtual Popularity Isn't Cool --- Its Pathetic":
In this article Daily explains how social media (Facebook) is getting out of control and people are getting too obsessed with it. He also states that they( men over 25) are spending most of their lives accommodating to their profile pages and connecting with poeple who are considered their so called "friends." Daily then goes on about how its ridiculous that they spend so much time worrying about what everyone else is doing, how many friends they have, and who commented on their page. They should be using all the time that they do spend on Facebook on more important real life things like their family, real friends, and jobs.

My opinion:
For starters I completely agree with everything Daily has to say. Yes I have social media, but does it control my life? No. The social media  sites that I go on are Twitter and Instagram and I do not spend much of my time on there on a daily basis. For both sites I do not care how many followers I have nor do I care much about commenting on peoples pages to connect with them. if i wanna connect with my friends or family I just send a text or give them a call. I use twitter to rant about the daily things going on in my life for a sense of relief as for Instagram I hardly go on there, but when I do I just post a picture of something random I did during the week. I too think its crazy when people make social media their life. I have friends with 100's of followers on their social media sites, but only know less then half of them in real life, I don't let people follow me if I don't know them. Why spend all that time building/maintaing you virtual life when you can use all that time to enhance and better your real life. Its absurd to think that people rather spend their days behind a computer screen rather than doing something that will benefit their lives. Sure its ok every now and then, but don't make it your life. Some might think that Daily is a being harsh by saying its "pathetic" but really it is. Get to know your friends the right way, text, call, meet up in person not through the internet. People lie all the time so you can never be 100% about your friends or followers on social media unless you meet face to face, so why entertain a bunch of people you truly know nothing about, who knows your friend Sally that you met online might really be a guy named Steve.
