got acne?

After doing extensive research on articles and commercials to use for my paper i finally found one that fits well with jack solomon's article "Masters of desire." The commercial itself is a proactive commercial starring Katy Perry. Generally we all know what the proactive commercials are about because they are all nearly identical. Its the fact that after watching this commercial viewers obtain this image that Katy Perry pop star is normal just like everyone else. In reality Katy Perry isn't remotely as normal as you and me, but after watching the commercial it really gives that effect that she is. Another thing i found interesting is that its normal to have acne, but we feel the need to have flawless skin and features in order to look better or be better than everyone with blemishes and what not. I feel that this advertisement will do great things for my essay and prove a few points or two on what i have exactly to say about this for of advertising method.

Nike Woman role models.

After viewing a few commercials for research for my paper I came across one that was interesting and much like the commercial i initially used in essay one. This commercial was a Nike one, its about female athletes going extensive lengths to be the best and to beat the "girls aren't good at sports" stereotype. These Ladies gave a quick talk about how trying your best and not giving up can lead to great lengths, you just got to start somewhere. It goes great for my expansion essay because it gives me more evidence to how "Women's Women's and Men's Women" have generally changed throughout the years. It give me more leeway to talk about how Steve Craig's definitions of those types of people are different now. The commercial sticks out to me because it can be indicated that these females in the commercial are not only women's women but also men's women. The women appeal both to men and women for several reasons, which is good because i can explain them in my essay to give it more body and length.

Proposal

I have chosen to expand essay number one on Steve Craig's article "Men's Men and Women's Women."This essay if very rich for expansion, I can find various other commercials that fit the stereotype of the initial commercial I used in essay one. There are many commercials out there so there is a wide selection for me to choose from and analyze, which will be very helpful for me in the end.

Ideas to expand.
1. Talk about all the stereotypes' that Craig mentions in his article.
2. Find out commercials that match the characteristics perfectly or i could do the exact opposite and fins commercials for each category and explain how society has changed the definition of a "Man's Man" "Women's Women" etc.
3. Compare my Cadillac SRX commercial I initially used for the essay with other commercials that fit well with Women's Women breaking stereotype.
4.Use more than just one commercial to lengthen my essay.
5. go in depth on commercials back in the time period when "Mens Men and Women's Women" was created and compare them to new aged commercials we television watchers see today.

Scholarly source key words/ phrases.
1. what men want in women.
2. what women want in men.
3. Advertising methods used today.
4. reviews on ______ commercial
5. How many people watch/ed _____ commercial(s)

Not this time.

After reading "The things they carried" i had a lot more understanding of military thoughts and actions. Yes I've never been in the military nor have i talked to anyone that has either. I really enjoyed learning the things that some of the military men carried. I like knowing that no matter how hard their missions are they still like to bring sentimental items even though they're heavy and might slow them down. It also ensures that some people have issues and choose to cater to them differently. Also the leadership skills and how the leader of the group always feels responsible for every little thing that happens no matter what the circumstances are. After reading this story it also made me wonder… what would i bring or carry with me. I though about it for a while and it would most likely be a locket that my mom gave me when i was a little kid. Being forced into the military also sounds like a scary experience. I wouldn't want to have to do something i didn't want to do in the first place, but sometimes i guess you have to do what you have to do.

Why do i always forget to do my blogs!! ):

After reading chapter 9 in "They Say I Say" by Tim O'brian he explained that when writing your essays its okay to use everyday slang as long as you now your audiences. He also explained that adding these words or phrases can add power and credibility to your essays making them more interesting for the readers.

I was always told not house any form of slang throughout my whole learning career, so I always tried to stay away from that all in all. Which kind of brings my to a confusion because all my english teachers were very different yet similar in some cases. They always saying to " do this and forget what you learned last year" Being a student I listen and do whatever my current teachers says in order to do well in the class. But after reading "They Say I Say" i feel like its such a great tool for me to improve my writing skills when writing essays. It really helped me with quotes and i really like the phrase of a "quotation sandwich" thats something i can never forget in my writing now. I hope to learn more and more interesting and helpful things reading that book, because i do want to become a well writer which has always been a a struggle for me.

Thoughts for lunch.

After reading chapter 34 in "I know why the Caged bird sings"I realized that this chapter is quite relatable to me. In this chapter Maya decides to take a break from school to find a job. I too think about taking a break from school to work two jobs and to save as much as i can. I know that wouldn't be a good solution because if i want to save a lot of money in the future i need to go to school to further my education which will one day lead me to a high paying job. Sacrificing financially struggling is okay with me as long as it will benefit me in the long run. Maya in this chapter goes back to school afterwords and feels that she doesn't belong. I can relate to that incident as well, when i was a kid in elementary school i was a little on the bigger side so kids didn't really wanna hang out with me. Thus making me feel lonely and i just felt like no one would ever want to be my friend. I always wanted to fit  , but as i grew up i realized that if they don't want to be my friends then i should want to be their friends either.

New Chapter New Story.

Chapter 20 Maya Angelou - I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings.
During this chapter Maya receives a Valentines note from a boy named Tommy Valdon, he's a grade higher than Maya. When she receives the letter she doesn't know how to react to it so she asks Louise who she met at the festival mention earlier in the chapter. Louise explains valentines day, love, valentines cards, how you should feel and what not. After so she decides that she doesn't want anything to do with the letter or love so they both tear the valentine together. Tommy writes another valentine saying he saw her rip it but still considers her his valentine. After everything that happened they begin to start flirting with each other and hanging around each other more and more.

My Thoughts.
I have never experienced a situation like this one so ill just elaborate on how i feel about the the main things that happen in this chapter. I feel like Maya throws and rips the valentines note because she doesn't like Love. The reason behind that is because of Mr. Freeman and everything he did to Maya, Rape, emotional scarring, and uneasiness. Of course Maya doesn't want to ever have anything to do with love, because thats all that she can recall of when she thinks of love of that sort. Towards the end of the chapter Maya somewhat realizes that Tommy is providing a different kind of love, maybe it being something shes more interested in. She believes that Tommy loves her for her and everything she is, her looks, brains, personality, which in my opinion is the definition of love. To love someone is to love everything about that person flaws and all. Which Maya definitely deserves, someone to genuinely love her after everything she was stripped of at such a young age… i could never imagine going though the circumstances she faced.
